Vlog #38: June is Motion Picture Month in NC!!

Still not set up with sogopro.com .. but i'm sure someone will be switching this over for me, if you guys would rather check it out at the new (kick ass) site! =]

[Hilarie and Kelly are sitting on a couch]

Hilarie Burton: Hi guys! Guess what? I stole Kelly from behind the camera and I’m making him actually talk today. Are you not happy about that?

Kelly Tenney: Not happy. [laughs]

HB: Not happy at all. But no, we have really good news! We’ve decided that June is our new favorite month. Do you want to tell everybody why?

KT: The governor, Governor Perdue, a friend of ours…

HB: …a very good friend.

KT: … has dedicated June as the Motion Picture Industry Month.

HB: So it’s a whole month in our state of North Carolina where it is celebrating the movie industry because, I mean, the movie industry really does a lot for this area. I mean, what, we affect tourism…

KT: Tourism, jobs.

HB: We’re a “green” industry.

KT: “Green” industry.

HB: Yeah, I mean, we’re super green. We have so many colleges here in state that put all of their energy into their arts departments. They put a lot of money into it. So we’re educating a whole generation of future filmmakers that we want to keep here.

KT: Promote, yes.

HB: Totally. So the month of June 2009 is Motion Picture Industry Month, and there’s going to be a big party in Raleigh.

KT: Big rally! On the 11th.

HB: On the 11th of June, what is it, the Halifax mall? They’re having a big…

KT: Yes.

HB: Okay. There’s a group that being set up, it’s called “25 to Survive.” What we’re trying to do, and what we’ve been trying to do for a while is get our film tax incentive in our state boosted.

KT: 15 to 25.

HB: We’re trying to get it to 25%. So that… what does that mean, for everybody at home who doesn’t understand the incentive stuff?

KT: Well basically, right now, the other states are beating us. Georgia has a 30% incentive…

HB: So for every dollar they spend in state, they get 30% back.

KT: That’s just about. I mean, it’s not quite that high because certain things are eliminated from it, but it’s close.

HB: Okay, so what we want, is we want to offer the people who are coming to our state the best possible incentive because every dollar they spend here, is money that’s going…

KT: Stateship.

HB: Yeah, it’s money that’s going to our schools, the families that live here…

KT: Small business…

HB: So it’s very important that we’re competitive with the other states in the country right now. So yeah, “25 to Survive” is the group that’s trying to boost our film incentive, and they’re going to have a great big rally in Raleigh on the 11th, the day of this party, and if you guys are interested in that, we really encourage you to check them out. They have a blogspot 25tosurvive.blogspot.com, and then they have Facebook and Twitter pages. We’ll write those all down for you so you guys can check them out. But yeah, support North Carolina film because that is what our company…

Both: …is all about!

HB: So yeah, join the team guys! See you later.
